Link vs. Clone

Objects and Relations can be copied and pasted as either a link or clone in Quantum4D. Spaces can only be cloned. When a space is cloned, the objects and relations within the space are pasted as links. The factors to keep in mind when deciding to paste as a link or a clone are outlined below.

Link

Pasting as a link will create an instance of the copied Object or Relation. When a change is made to the linked Object or Relation, the original is immediately affected. Linked Objects and Relations are generally preferred over cloned Object and Relations to keep a tidy repository. Remember, you can use the Usages panel to find all linked items and where they exist.

Clone

Pasting as a clone will create a distinct duplicate of the copied Object, Space or Relation. When a change is made to the cloned entity, the original is unaffected. When cloning a space and its contents, you must copy and paste a clone of the space and then separately clone the Objects and Relations into the newly cloned space.
