Going beyond spreadsheets

Until the computer era, it was reasonable to break data down into discrete packets small enough to fit on a page. That's no longer necessary or even reasonable.  This fragmentation of data ultimately fragments insight.  It also leads to repetitive work since users need to format their data and charts in an isolated manner.   While you’ll still need to manage your own proprietary and private data, you shouldn't need to reformat and create charts of shared data about our world.

The metabase is a solution to this problem. Quantum4D has created an evolving shared repository of data for our user community. This saves them tremendous time and gives them more immediate access to deeper shared insights.

Quantum4D is more than a data visualization tool; it is a system visualization platform. By opening and combining different spaces you can articulate all the forces and factors impacting your concerns. With one click you can toggle through different ‘lenses’ or ways of seeing each sub-space and map relations between multiple layers of a system in one screen view.

Types of complexity that can be simply seen in Quantum4D include:

    • Structural complexity: the connections that make up systems.
    • Network evolution: often the connections can change over time.
    • Connection diversity: often there are different weights to different connections.

    • Object diversity: systems display many different types of objects.

Users can show effects occurring across multiple scales in the same space (as backdrop lighting and flags among other visual cues).

 

Shed Light into Dark Databases

Today’s mathematical models divide forces and factors that impact your returns into two domains: endogenous and exogenous.   Treating variables as exogenous allows analyst to extract determinacy from an indeterminate world.  This reliance on reduced form equations is a root cause leading to the ‘surprises’ that account for catastrophic model failures that can destroy a portfolio or entire firm (i.e. Bear Stearns, sub-prime mortgage crisis, Amaranth, LTCM... tulips and other 'black swan' events).  If you can see systems behaving then you can catch the inflection and react quicker (even profit) from it's contagion. We can help you get a better feel for your model structure and behavior and at the same time let a non-quant manager simply see your work in action.

One major inhibitor to the continued evolution of system models remains the ability to articulate and see the architecture and behavior of complex models; the more sophisticated your model, the harder it is to understand how minor changes can impact the overall behavior of the system.
