CONVERT .Q4Z AND .GZ FILES TO .Q4D
This document contains a brief description on how to convert your older data files into Quantum4D’s new “.q4d” files.
Instructions
- Drag SerialConverter.bat and SerialConverter.jar onto the desktop
- Drag the files you wish to convert onto the desktop
- Open Command Prompt
- Go to the start menu
- Go to all programs
- Go to Accessories
- Select command prompt
- In Command Prompt type “cd desktop”
- The command prompt line will read C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\Desktop>
- Make sure there are no spaces in the name file you want to convert.
- If there are spaces change the filename eg. Change “This File” to ThisFile” or “This.File”
- In Command Prompt type SerialConverter.bat ThisFile.q4z and hit enter
- If it is working correctly you should get a message that says “Starting Conversion . . . “
- If not you probably made a typing error (see hint below)
- If a large file is being converted there may not be anything happening for a while, or may show a large amount of output and then appear to stop for a while.
- There will also be a file folder appearing on your desktop with the same name as the file – just ignore it. (The folder will turn into the new file)
- Repeat steps 5 through 7 for each file
Hint: You can rename Serial Converter.bat to S.bat and any file you want to convert to a.q4z, this will save you a lot of time and headache by avoiding typos. Make sure to change the name on the new .q4d file to something meaningful
Note: You cannot perform q4o->q4d conversion in the above manner; it's best to do that by import & export inside the application and is outside the scope of these instructions
Also: You will get icons for Quantum4D.log and derby.log, those files can be deleted with no ill effects This one pager gives instructions on how to create .3Ds and/or .obj files for Quantum4D using 3D Studio Max.
