Displaying the Space

In terms of the display "space", is there a way to easily scroll or zoom in or out of the data represented?
I can change my perspective of the 3d view of the data no problem, but some data sets are initially "far away" in space, while others are "too close", while some are not centered in space. I'd say that half of all the datasets that I viewed suffer from one of these maladies. I understand that I can adjust this via the scale/grid feature, but it would be better if the "picture" was presented in an optimal scale related to the size of the display space, to begin with.
This should be fixed! Not only should the data be in view when you enter, you can now save a view. For instance, if you wanted to always enter a space and view the data a certain way (zoomed in, zoomed out, rotated, etc) all you have to do is use the "Save View Settings" button on the space toolbar:
